If we were going to get another player from the 2012 draft, couldn’t we have just signed Koekkoek? |

Yes, but JJ is also an ECHL player. Ceci is an AHL player. |

Koekkoek would've been a better choice for sure but what can we do now? Hoping that Ceci can do a decent job on the 3rd pairing, assuming he'll be ahead of Riikola or Ruhwedel. |

If Matheson and Ceci can form a solid 3rd pair that would be the greatest miracle since the 1980 Olympics. I’m honestly hoping this turns out to be the case though. |

Every report suggests the org loves Ruhwedel. I'm hopeful that since Ceci's contract is so small, Chad will still get a fair shake at 3RD. Probably unlikely, but this is a bit different than signing Johnson for a million years at $3.25 mil per. I think hoping that Ceci gets press boxed and the better player plays is a lot more realistic than hoping he'll all of a sudden turn competent at age 26. |

That’s fair. Chances probably aren’t real high for a 26 year old to become the next big reclamation project ala Justin Schultz. Schultz at least showed some talent before coming over here.
I’m sure Johnson got so much playing time mostly due to the contract and Martin. At least 1.25 is a little easier to sit if he doesn’t prove to be an upgrade over Ruh. |

I think your 14M available is a bit optimistic. Even well managed teams have bad contracts. But we could easily have around 10M in cap space. Enough for some big names. |

Jarry better resemble a Vezina goalie this year if the Pens have any shot. |

RW when was the last signing or trade made by the Pens you actually liked? Does it even exist? |

Jim Rutherford on Ceci:
“He’s one of those guys who fell through the cracks. He’s a capable NHL defenseman who kills penalties and skates pretty well, which we like.”
Adds he likes knowing there are “8 NHL level defensemen” on roster to allow prospects “time” in AHL.
This is fairly telling on where JR feels POJ and Maniscalco are in their development. Hopefully those guys find where to play if the AHL doesn't have a season. |

The trades for Marino and Zucker were solid as far as recent ones go. |

He scored more goals with McCann than he did with Crosby or Malkin this year. And he should be in the PP regardless if he was a 3rd liner. So I reject both your points. |

So the plan is to have Cody Ceci be the safety net for one of the league's top turnover machines. What could possibly go wrong? |
